Advanced Metering Information

As the world advances in technology, so does the way power is generated, distributed, and delivered to our members.  We are pleased to announce that Choptank Electric Cooperative will be stepping into the era of new technology and adopting AMI, or advanced metering infrastructure, and advanced meters.

The following information pertains to the type of meters and the safety requirements for Choptank Electric Cooperative’s AMI Meter Deployment: UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a leading testing and certification company, has conducted safety performance tests using the UL safety requirements for utility meters and found that the GE meter designs that Choptank Electric Cooperative is using are fully compliant with these tests. The General Electric I-210+c meters meet or exceed the following standards:  ANSI C12.19, ANSI C12.1, ANSI C12.10, ANSI C12.20, ANSI C37.90.1, and UL 2735.

For the State of Maryland, utility practices and equipment are regulated by the Code of Maryland Regulations, or COMAR. COMAR’s recognized standard for testing is the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

If a member wishes to opt out of the advanced meters, they must fill out the Advanced Meter Opt Out Form.  Also provided here is the Advanced Meter Opt Out Rider.
